When it comes to Catholic statuary, few subjects are as iconic and spiritually powerful as the image of Jesus Christ. In this project, I combined modern materials and age-old devotion to craft fiberglass Jesus sculptures that embody love, sacrifice, and eternal hope.

1. Sketching and Clay Modeling

We began with sketches inspired by classical Western sculpture, images of the Sacred Heart, and art depicting the Resurrection. Once the pose was confirmed, we sculpted a clay maquette, carefully shaping facial features, hair, and flowing garments.

2. Molding and Fiberglass Casting

The clay model was used to create a silicone mold supported by a plaster mother mold. Inside this mold, we applied fiberglass mat and epoxy resin layer by layer. Each layer had to be precise, especially in detailed areas like the hands and face, ensuring structural strength and surface clarity.

3. Sanding and Finishing

After curing, we sanded and refined the sculpture for hours, achieving a smooth and polished finish. I then applied paint, followed by hand-rubbed patina techniques. The goal was to give the sculpture a timeless, dignified appearance suitable for sacred settings. Special care went into the eyes, designed to express a quiet gaze that comforts, blesses, and transcends.
